ASPIRATION

Aspiration is a call to the Divine. — The Mother

Jesus said "My kingdom is not of this world"
He left his body...but his followers had no problem with this fact: Their kingdom was not of this world, do not forget.

When Sri Aurobindo left his body, there were many rumors and some doubts about his work...but there was still the Mother (the same consciousness in two different bodies)...

But Mother also left his body...

And lest we forget, "The kingdom of Sri Aurobindo and Mother was of this world"

Now let us consider the discussion:
How does this affect to the followers of Mother and Sri Aurobindo?
How have overcame this apparent contradiction?
It is more...Do you think that is an apparent contradiction, or perhaps a failure?

It cannot be a contradiction or failure, as far as I am aware, the Mother and Sri Aurobindo:

a] did not promise their followers that they would remain in their bodies
b] repeatedly pointed out to the battle and the painstaking work still needed in the physical/material consciousness
c] operated at many different levels, of which the physical body was only one
d] probably They got fed up of the lack of intelligence on the part of those followers who almost suffocated Them with their inane questions and decided They wanted to work in a place at a Higher plane where the demands of such followers would not distract them?!
e] The 'Kingdom' as envisioned by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother is of 'this world', in the sense that all the materials are there and it is is an exciting 'Adventure in Consciousness', charting unknown territory like explorers.
f] problem is medieval/dark ages thinking of such followers is not suitable for the 21st C [and beyond] Minds of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.

These are just my views, based on my limited knowledge and experience. I hope somebody else will give us some quotes from Mother and Sri Aurobindo on this discussion.

Dear Kalpana...Your views always bring us light and common sense. Thank you.

I agree with you about all the points you mentioned.

By the way...Do you read "Beyond Man " by Van Vrekhem, George?

When the people around were fully engrossed in external and vital gratifications, with no opening within or in Consciousness, Jesus Christ came and told them about the Heaven, so that they would try to go beyond a gross material life and think of God and a spiritual way of life.

Similarly, prior to that Lord Buddha taught the people to go for Nirvana. and then Shankara too emphasized on Moksha, so that the people would not sink into a life of gross animal and sensual gratification.

The result was that the tendency became one of neglecting the basis — the material life — altogether. However, the base was / is essentially needed for a completer lfe, for a life that would lead the Human towards a much higher Existence, which is the Aim of this Creation of which we are a part.

Further, this Manifestation would be an error of the Divine, of Existence-Consciousness-Bliss, if a total Nirvana would have the Aim. This Manifestation is not really a Maya, not really a falsehood. This is a continuous Evolution of That which is involved. Though Man is the highest result of Evolution till now, he is NOT the final, not the End. "Man is a transitional being" — says Sri Aurobindo. He has to become the instrument of the coming New Race, which will have a Consciousness and Being higher than that of Man. It was the need therefore that the Avatar should speak of this world. . The New Race will come here on earth and It will be of the Higher Consciousness, the Divine Consciousness. So Man is no more required to turn towards Nirvana or Moksha or the Heaven. He shall have to aim at the fulfillment here on earth, of course, having attained a higher consciousness beyond Mind and Matter.

Hence, there is no question of leaving the Earth. That is the Ultimate Way — the Divine Life here on Earth. The basis is here.

There is no contradiction, no failure. Sri Aurobindo will return as the First Supramental Being, as stated by The Mother. And The Mother is already with the New Body, which is not yet visible to the gross human eyes. But time will come when the most blind person will also be conscious of the Supramental here on earth.

Thanks - will look into that title.

As I have read in the book "Beyond Man" (by Van Vrekhem, George), the following question came to Ashram from Canada after Mother left her body.
For its importance, the question was answered by Nolini Kanta Gupta (at least that is what I have read in the book mentioned above).
I post it in this discussion because I think that brings light to the topic.

"A Canadian Question"

Question:

IT is written in A Practical Guide to Integral Yoga¹:

The physical nearness to the Mother is indispensable for the fullness of the sadhana on the physical plane. Transformation of the physical and external being is not possible otherwise.

My question is: How are we to interpret these words in the light of the Mother's recent passing? Does this mean that a full transformation is no longer possible to the aspirant? Or has discipleship on the material level in the path of the Integral Yoga come to an end?

Answer:

Obviously, the immediate programme of a physical transformation is postponed – not cancelled.

But what we have been given is not less of a miracle. Mother has prepared for us her new body in the inner world, in the subtle physical which is as living and tangible as her physical body even though not as concrete. In one of her last Notes2 she refers to this new transformed body and she describes it as presented to her vision. That body she has built up in her long arduous labours, built up in a complete form and left with us and with humanity.

This new body of hers, prepared behind the material curtain, she sought to infuse into the material form, even press into it or

first of all i would take up the last point.

this is certainly an apparent contradiction, and certainly not a failure. even this would not be a contradiction, even apparent, if we know the motives of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo when They left Ther physical envelopes.

Sri Aurobindo left His Physical Body to create a base for the descent of The Supramental. The Mother later worked on for the same and accomplished it, as we know.

Then, The Mother, left Her Physical bidy because She had to do some works being in a different level, for which She had to work being in a different form than the physical body.

as The Masters have assured us that They shall certainly retuen to us, in Theri physical envelopes whic we have seen, this must assure all the queries. only the Time ha sto come and we have to wait ardently for that Hour.

therefore this must not affect the Devotees, and i guess when we know the motives of The Masters behind their leaving of Physical Body, there is no question of overcoming the contradiction, because there is no contradiction in the true sense.

Dedicated to Her Feet,

Gopal.
